Upon looking into different forums regarding Nintendo 3DS hacking, a lot of people are actually asking if they are required to buy the current generation of R4 3DS cards for it to work on their Nintendo 3DS.
In today’s article, I will talk more about it and what you should do. If you own a Nintendo 3DS and you have an R4 3DS card, then good for you. You just want to increase the functionality of your Nintendo 3DS and that is for the benefit of you.
Now, the Nintendo 3DS game console has been out for a couple of years now and so is the R4 3DS card.
R4 3DS cards increase the functionality of the Nintendo 3DS portable game console by hacking into its system; enabling you to do a lot of things that you couldn’t do before.
Anyway, back to the question, should you really need to have the current generation of R4 3DS cards?
This is actually a legitimate question. This question is legit because back in the day where R4 cards for the Nintendo DS were still prominent.
You see, every time Nintendo releases a major firmware update, it will render all of the R4 DS cards useless and the only way for the people to make use of R4 cards is buying a new one entirely.
Of course, this isn’t a problem for most people but for people who are on a budget, this can be really hard on them.
That problem is no longer the case in today’s world. R4 3DS cards today only require a kernel update to make them work on the newest Nintendo firmware.
That means you just have to go to the manufacturer’s website, download the kernel files, update the kernel of your R4 3DS card, and it should work just fine even when you’re on the latest Nintendo firmware.
Now, that can be the best route, especially if you do not want to dish out money just to buy a new R4 3DS card.
But you see, each year, R4 3DS cards evolve and new amazing features are added. It would be wise to get a hold of them, right?
What new features can you expect in every new generation of R4 3DS cards? First, the new generation of R4 3DS cards always has a new and better processor.
Take a look at the new Sky3DS Plus R4 3DS card, for example. It now comes with a much-improved dual-core processor that not only has twice the processing power compared to its previous iterations but it also acts as a battery saver because your Nintendo 3Ds will not have to work as hard as before.
Also, there are new functionalities like Download play, additional homebrew support, among others that are going to be present in the newer generations.
So to answer the age-old question, no, you do not have to buy the newer generation R4 3DS cards just to make it work on the latest Nintendo firmware. But, you are missing out if you do not buy them as new generation R4 3DS cards always have new features.
